International Women’s Day 2019 – Summerside, Prince Edward Island
So, for IWD 2019, I decided to venture into an unfamiliar community, unfamiliar town, unfamiliar Province, to support, motivate, empower and inspire women I didn’t know or met prior.
It was a bold step to take, especially without knowing what the outcome would be, but I ventured anyways.
I was literally told by someone who knew the terrain, lived the terrain and understood the people to give it up, but I only had one thought – if I gave it up, I would have learned nothing.
I wouldn’t have my own story, I would be telling someone else’s story.
I needed to own it and have my own personal experiences.
And if you knew me at all, you would know that I love to tell my own stories.
My first visit to Summerside PEI was on January 2nd 2019, two months later, on March 8, 2019. I was hosting and celebrating International Women’s Day with an amazing group of diverse women. The event brought together women from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and of course, Prince Edward Island.
We bonded, shared knowledge and experiences, expanded our business networks and above all made new friends.
In the end, it was a worthwhile venture, a learning experience, and making incredible business connections.
I am happy I shut down every negative voice in my head, I am glad I didn’t let someone else define my path, I am grateful I did what I knew how to do best – follow my own instincts.
Success is a mindset, failure is also a mindset. Choose wisely and work for what you believe in.
Carve your own path and tell your own story. Do not buy into other people’s negatives. Stay positive and stay focused.
Do not give up for the 99% who said no or doubted you, rather keep going for the 1% who said yes and believed in you.
“There is always light at the end of the tunnel.”
