Black History Month 2022

February is Black History Month, a time we honour the legacy of Black Canadians and celebrate their many achievements and contributions to the social, cultural, political and economic wellbeing of our country.

This year’s Black History Month theme is: “February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day.”

We cannot do Black History Month natural justice without recognizing and applauding the contributions of black women in our communities and nation at large. Yet, so often, the contributions of black women to our socio-economic growth go primarily unnoticed; hence, they are viewed as merely on the receiving end of aid and support, which is hugely untrue because black women thrive in business, entrepreneurship, and leadership greatly.

Therefore, in recognizing the vital role black women play in shaping our local economies, the STAR Women’s Network Inc. will each week throughout February spotlight and honour a black female leader, entrepreneur, advocate or business owner for their Strength, Tenacity, Audacity and Resilience (STAR) with #STARblazer of the week. We encourage everyone to intentionally support black women-owned businesses in their communities this month.

Ways to support black women-owned businesses

  • Invest In Black Women-Owned Businesses
  • Amplify their voices
  • Visit their websites and promote them on Social Media.
  • Be Intentional.
  • Share With Your Social Circles.
  • Build a Relationship.
  • Buy from them. Write & Share a Review.
  • Share a Seat at The Table.

So, this year, go beyond the ordinary and recognize the extraordinary beauty black women bring to the development and growth of Canada.
